Ecology of Contemporary Listening (Abstract)
“Between 2018 and 2023, advances in professional audio technologies — DSP, high-dynamic-range converters, and modern active monitors — have quietly shifted the foundations of how we listen. Where traditional hi-fi offered an interpretation of sound, these tools introduce an exact, stable, and analytical mode of listening that reveals the source without mediation.
In my artistic practice, this precision exposes phenomena that were previously difficult to perceive: micro-variations in analog synthesis, stable spatialisation, and the emergence of a genuine perceptual cartography of sound. These observations point toward a broader transition — a redefinition of listening behaviours and the cultural practices built around them.
This text explores this potential shift toward an “augmented melomane listening,” situated between the studio and the domestic sphere, and considers what “listening well” might now mean in the post–hi-fi era.”

Écologie de l'écoute contemporaine (abstract)
“Entre 2018 et 2023, l’évolution des technologies audio professionnelles — DSP, convertisseurs haute dynamique, moniteurs actifs — a discrètement déplacé les repères de l’écoute. Là où la hi-fi proposait une interprétation du son, ces outils introduisent une écoute exacte, stable et analytique, révélant la source sans médiation.
Dans ma pratique, cette précision met en lumière des phénomènes jusque-là peu accessibles : micro-variations de la synthèse analogique, stabilité de la spatialisation, émergence d’une véritable cartographie perceptive du son. Ces observations suggèrent une transition plus large : une redéfinition des gestes d’écoute et des pratiques culturelles associées.
Ce texte propose d’explorer cette possible bascule vers une « écoute mélomane augmentée », à la croisée du studio et du domestique, et d’interroger ce que pourrait désormais signifier “bien écouter” à l’ère post-hi-fi.”
